Winners of Wells Fargo $20M Housing Innovation Challenge 

The Wells Fargo Foundation and Enterprise Community Partners announced the 2023 Housing Affordability Breakthrough Challenge winners, allocating $20 million across six organizations to scale innovative housing solutions.  

Winning ideas span: 

  • Build UP Birmingham and Beyond in Alabama, facilitating workforce development and homeownership pathways. 
  • Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority’s home ownership program in rural Alaska. 
  • Sustainable housing technologies in Syracuse, New York, and urban communities via Hydronic Shell Technologies and Module. 
  • Innovations by Hope Enterprise Corp. in the Mississippi Delta and Grounded Solutions Network in Atlanta to enable renters’ transition to homeownership. 

The challenge drew over 400 applications, with initiative supports innovative housing ideas tailored to local needs, emphasizing equity and transformative change. These solutions aim to enhance affordability, including a workforce training program for homeownership, unique financing models in rural areas like the Mississippi Delta, and carbon-reducing construction technology for multifamily buildings.
