Skybox Building 1M SF Lancaster Data Center

While data centers typically don’t carry too many employees once the building is constructed and the computers are installed, they do require a big investment to build. Google, for example, is spending $600 million on a facility in Red Oak. While 1,200 may be needed to build the facility, only 30 will be required to man it once it’s open. For the local communities, the property tax bill is hefty.

Dallas-based Skybox Datacenters LLC plans to build a one million-square-foot data center in Lancaster, south of Dallas. PowerCampus Dallas will provide up to 300 megawatts of power and is a partnership with Dallas developer Bandera Ventures and Principal Asset Management.

The Dallas Morning News reports the data center will be on 100 acres near I-35E at South Dallas Avenue and Old Red Oak Road.

Skybox, founded in 2014, has ten active projects, including a 221-acre facility it’s building with Prologis Inc. in Austin.
